50 Tunes for Bass Vol. 1 - $29.95 + 2.75 S/H (US only)

Book with 3 CDs. Softcover 173 pages. Volume 1 for Bass is one book in a 5-book series. The 50 Tunes series is a collection of Bluegrass, Old Time and Celtic tunes for ensembles, families and individuals. This book contains the same 50 tunes as those found in the other 4 books of the series, but carefully designed for the bass. The parts in this book range from beginner to advanced and are arranged in "basic," "active" and "solo" levels. Basic, a standard accompaniment mode is the simplest level of bass playing. Active bass is a mixture of basic accompaniment and "walking" which is common in jazz music. Solo bass--which involves fast, syncopated melodic phrases--is the most complex level of bass playing. All parts are written in standard bass clef notation and 4-line bass tablature.

Walking Bass, by Johnny Rector - $24.95 + 2.75 S/H (US only)

Book & CD. Softcover 95 pages. The modern electric bass guitar patterns presented here are designed to teach the student guitarist and bassist the basics of playing effective "walking bass line" accompaniment for instrumentalists and vocalists. This is a no-nonsense book that gets quickly to the heart of the matter. It would best be appreciated by the intermediate to advanced student already familiar with the fundamentals of electric bass guitar technique. Written in notation and tablature, Walking Bass provides a thorough grounding in chord theory as applied to the electric bass. The accompanying CD recording is very helpful in grasping the aural concepts presented in the book.

Country Bass Guitar Made Easy, by Larry McCabe - $17.95 + 2.75 S/H (US only)

Book & CD. This book/CD set teaches the basics of country bass playing in a fun, “quick access” format, In a minimum amount of time, you will learn the bass part to 22 popular traditional songs. All bass parts are written in both tablature and standard notation exactly as played on the companion CD. Extra lyrics are provided for singers. This stereo CD enables you to “sit in” with a country band that includes a singer, rhythm guitar and bass. To facilitate learning, each of the 22 songs is performed at two tempos: moderate and “slowpoke.” The stereo format allows you to hear the bass guitar clearly isolated on the right speaker. I personally love this method book & CD and think it is well suited for acoustic bass, too!

Encyclopedia of Bass Chords, Arpeggios & Scales - $13.99 + 2.75 S/H (US only)

Book. This is a very valuable study and reference book for the bass player. Four different scale and chordal arpeggio forms are shown for each major, minor, and dominant seventh chord. In each key the basic I-IV-V7 chord progression is shown in four different locations on the bass fingerboard. Also included are whole tone and chromatic scales. Finally, numerous movable chordal arpeggio forms are presented on 12 types of chords. This book is probably more suited to someone with a general theory background, but is an excellent resource!
